GRADER APPLICATION AND INFORMATION - Fall 2002

    SUBJECT: Policy for Hiring Graders

    APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, June 14, 2002

    1. The following priority has been established for the selection of graders:

    A. Undergraduate students previously employed as Math graders who have received excellent ratings for their work.
    B. Undergraduate Math majors.
    C. Undergraduate Natural Science majors.
    D. Math graduate students.
    E. Math TAs (hired for honors, upper-division and graduate courses only).
    F. All others (graduate students from other departments will be hired only if there is no qualified undergraduate applicant available).

    Eligibility Considerations/Requirements

    A. Evidence of outstanding scholarship.
    B. Undergraduate assistants must be working toward their first degree.
    C. Graduate student graders must be registered for 9 hours.
    D. Students on Scholastic Probation can not be hired, regardless of having high grades in mathematics.
    E. Special students are not eligible.
    F. Students who have been held in violation of University Standards of Conduct may not be eligible.

    2. Each student selected as a grader in the Mathematics Department may be asked to take a short test to determine his/her proficiency in the course to be graded.

    3. All new graders must present proof of eligibility for employment by completing a Verification of Identity and United States Employment Authorization for All Employees form. Forms will be given to you upon acceptance of employment.

    4. Graders will be appointed for different numbers of hours per week depending on such factors as class size, frequency and amount of homework, etc.

    5. A list of people selected to be graders will be posted outside the Math Department (RLM 8.1OO) sometime during the first week of class. Those people chosen to be graders must attend an orientation meeting, which will be announced along with the grader list, or the job will be offered to someone else. The orientation meeting will be held during the first week of class. Graders are responsible for advising us immediately of any change of address or phone number.
