A bounded linear operator is a linear function on vector spaces that maps the unit ball to a bounded set. I plan to talk about Hilbert spaces, operators on Hilbert spaces and the spectrum of a bounded operator on a Hilbert space (the spectrum is sort of like eigenvalues--only more complicated in infinite dimensions). My ultimate goal is to introduce (without proof) the continuous functional calculus for self-adjoint operators, so you guys can see what the spectrum can do for you (or maybe just me). Submitted by
