Junior Number Theory: Pisot and Salem Numbers by Charles Samuels (UT Austin) in RLM 9.166
Abstract: A Pisot number is an algebraic number all of whose other conjugates lie inside the open unit disc in the complex plane. A Salem number has all of its other conjugates, except for one, on the unit circle. We will give the main properties of these remarkable numbers and show that the two types are intimately related. We will also discuss their relevance to Lehmer's Conjecture. Submitted by
