Sophex: λ-Rings: A Modern Approach to K-Theory, Vector Bundles, and Representation Theory by Adam Hughes (UT Austin) in RLM 10.176
Grothendieck's λ-rings are commutative rings with 1 which have an added unary operation called λ-powers satisfying all the formal properties of exterior powers on vector bundles. This talk aims to introduce some of the basic ideas and definitions associated to λ-rings, as well as mention applications to other areas, including representation theory, K-theory, and symmetric function theory. The talk assumes only a good background in elementary commutative ring theory and the basics of category theory, though exposure to vector bundles and representation theory is necessary for some of the examples which will be presented.
