Math Club Talk: Grasshoppers, Spiders, and Zompires; The Diversity within Mathematical Biology by Dr. William Wolesensky in RLM 11.176
Mathematical Biology is an extremely broad area of research. Many mathematicians perform research in the areas of bioinformatics, cell dynamics, tumor growth, and areas involving human physiology. However, my work has focused primarily on incorporating climate change into mathematical models governing insect digestion, vigilance, nutrient acquisition dynamics, and predator-prey interactions. The discussion will be non-technical and will highlight some of my previous research as well as my current directions of research, which include using mathematics to explore current ecological issues.
