Junior GST: Introduction to the Swampland Program by Ivan Tulli in RLM 10.176
The swampland program aims to develop criteria to distinguish which effective field theories can be UV completed to a theory of quantum gravity. Those that can be completed to a theory of quantum gravity are in the "landscape", while the ones that cannot be completed are in the "swampland". In the first part of the talk, I will quickly explain why a physicist or mathematician should care about the Swampland program. In the second part, I will explain the Swampland distance conjecture, and how it appears in one of the simplest cases: the effective theories coming from the (closed, oriented) bosonic string theory, compactified on a circle.
