The Department's research and educational goals are designed
to address the responsibilities assocuated with these three
components. Our goals are
- To meet basic instructional needs at a sustained level of
execellence for diverse academic areas through the
utlization of well-trained, knowledgeable instructors who
has achieved a significant level of accomplishment in
mathematics.

To provide broad and excellent training for its majors
which incorporates the principal ideas from the most
significant research areas in the mathematical sciences
by utilizing the instructional skills of accomplished
research mathematicians.

To provide a rich mathematical environment for graduate
instruction of world-class stature by recruitment of
junior and senior faculty who have achieved significant
positions of leadership in their research area and have
demonstrated a capability to assist in the development of
future leaders of the mathematical community.
