    Important General Information:

    1. If a student is absent from a test and wishes to be given a make-up test, then he or she must formally request this within 48 HOURS of the test missed. The request, which must be supported by a properly documented excuse, must be presented to the student's instructor. If you are the least bit uncertain as to the validity of an excuse based on some previously scheduled, upcoming event, then seek approval for a make-up before the exam in question, not after the fact.

    2. To succeed in M408K students need to develop good study habits and to seek assistance whenever and wherever it is provided. Students are particularly encouraged to attend discussion groups regularly and to seek help from the Teaching Assistant for the section for which they are registered. Additional help is available at the UT Learning Center (UTLC) in Jester A332. It will offer the following programs to all U.T. students taking M408K in Spring, 2008.

    • Free drop-in tutoring for M408K is available in JES A315, Sunday 5p-10p; Monday-Thursday, 11a-10p and; Fridays 11a-3p. This room is set aside for students working on entry-level math, precalculus, calculus, chemistry, and physics, and 7 tutors are available at all times to help you with your questions. This is a great place to go to ask questions about homework problems you have been struggling with. Plan to go after you have worked on problems on your own, and come with questions.

    • The tutors at UTLC can also answer questions related to prerequisite knowledge (precalculus topics), study strategies, and "math anxiety problems". The Drop-In tutoring lab assistants can provide you with many helpful math resources (textbooks, videos, handouts, formula sheets, etc.).

    • Private one-to-one Tutoring is also available at UTLC. The cost is $12.50/hour. In order to sign up for tutoring, you will first need to visit the UTLC front desk (JES A332) to be registered in the UTLC database. If you are receiving financial aid, you may qualify for 25 hours of free tutoring per semester. Inquire at UTLC to see if you are eligible.

    • Free workshops and classes are also offered by the UTLC. These include Study Skills, Trigonometry Review, Differentiation Review, and Final Exam Review for M408K, among others. The full schedule for Spring 2008 classes can be viewed at http://www.utexas.edu/student/utlc/class/class.html

    • Because good algebra and trigonometric skills are essential for success in M408K, students should test their skills by taking the free Algebra Diagnostic Test and Trigonometric Diagnostic Test for Calculus Students

    • Calculus videos are also available for check out at the UGL Audio Visual Reserves (3rd floor). One can search for the videos by typing in "Whitehead" for instructor or "M 408" for course at the site: http://utdirect.utexas.edu/lib/utnetcat/rsrv.html. Videos are "in-library" use only, but there are many viewing stations available at the UGL.
UTLC  free courses to get you started this semester (registration is required).
    • Algebra Review: Jan. 22-25 (TWThF, 6-7:15pm).
    • Trigonometry for Calculus: Jan. 28-31 (MTWTh,  6-7:15pm).
Final Exam Review:  April 21-24 (MTWTh, 6-7:15pm)

Students who wish to use these services should go to the UTLC main office in Jester A332. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9-5. Check also the web site http://utlc.utexas.edu

    4. Students who fall under the University's Learning Disability Policy must present the Dean of Student's certification of that fact to the student's instructor prior to the first test.
