New Teaching Assistants and Graduate Research Assistants will be
considered new fulltime employees, working 20 hours a week.
At UT Austin, we are paid once a month, on the first work day of each month. You will start work when the Fall 2009 semester starts, but your appointment to the payroll will be September 1, 2009, to January 15, 2010.
Your first paycheck will be on October 1 (covering the pay period September 1-30.) The payday
is the first WORKING date of the month. Therefore if the first of the month falls on a Saturday
or Sunday or Holiday, we are paid on the next working day.
You can, of course, bank anywhere. But, if you choose University Federal Credit Union, you will receive your paycheck a few days earlier.
We also offer direct deposit of your payroll check. This also speeds up the time for your
paycheck to reach your bank.
When you arrive in Austin, you will need to complete the following paperwork as a new
employee:
The "I-9" is the United States Department of Justice Immigration and Naturalization
Service
Employment Eligibility Verification form. All new employees must complete and sign this form.
You must furnish documents to me from the list approved by the U. S. Department of Justice.
For United States Citizens: If you want to use your Social Security card, remember I have to see the actual Social Security card. Just knowing your Social Security number is not enough. We have to see the actual card. If you do not have the card, please apply for a replacement card now.
The W-4 is the Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate. This form will tell the
Payroll
Department the correct amount to withhold for your Federal Income Tax. If you are not sure
about
the number of allowances you wish to claim, or would like more information, go to www.irs.gov and click on W-4.
Selective Service: United States male citizens, between the ages of
18
and
25, must register with the Selective Service. We
will
print your verification of registration
form for you and have it ready for your signature when you complete your paperwork.
Political Aid, Legislative Influence, and Standards of Conduct Provisions of the 1997-98
Appropriations Act This form
is printed for you in your paperwork packet.
Insurance information
will be provided
during
oriention. You will have the same insurance benefits as all full-time employees. Your appointment of 20 hours per week is considered full-time. Medical insurance premiums are paid by the University. If you want dental insurance or vision insurance, you will pay the premiums for these optional coverages.
Parking - as an employee, you will be eligible for an "A" Parking permit. You can apply for the
permit online, and the cost of about $8 a month will be deducted from your paycheck.
