How to check Mail and using the Internet

To Check Your Mail
 
                      1.   Login to any Linux computer in the Math Department.

                    2.   After logging in, type "pine" at the linux prompt.

                    3.   The pine menu has an option for help that can explain all the commands
                           you want to know about.

                            In Addition, all the commands for a particular screen are listed at the
                            bottom of the page.
 

                1.  Telnet a machine with your UNIX account.

                      2.  After logging in to the machine, type pine at the prompt.

                        For example, if you have an account in the CS department...
                        type "telnet oink.cs.utexas.edu"  Note that oink is an name of one of the
                        CS  UNIX machines.
                        If you want another machine just use that name instead.
                        You will now be asked for a login name and a password.
                        After logging into another machine use pine by typing "pine" at the prompt.

Using the Internet

To get into Netscape, type "netscape&" at the linux prompt in the xterm window.
