2011 Math Dept Staff Excellence Awards

In 2010, the Mathematics Department proposed to the university administration to establish a departmental staff excellence award. The following is an excerpt from the proposal Dr. Beckner wrote to Provost Lesile and Dean Rakin:

"Staff are the backbone of our University -- they provide the 'consistent performance' and 'first-rate competence' that insures the success of the University of Texas at Austin in all our educational and research endeavors. Mathematics would like to move beyond its current staff appreciation awards and establish a new 'special' staff excellence award which would demonstrate to our classified staff recognition of their critical role in the ongoing successful accomplishments of our program."

The establishment of this award has been approved. This year's recipients of our staff excellence awards are Margaret Combs and Maorong Zou, in recognition of their outstanding service to the department.
