[Maxima] Problems with EV

Strangely enough, I came across a bug today caused by a misuse of ev in a
share file.  (I swear -- I wasn't seeking this out!)  In this case, the
semantics of ev were very clear, but not appropriate -- in fact, ev is
almost never appropriate in expression-manipulating code....
