[Maxima] key settings, xmaxima, on macbook proq

Hello,
 I am trying to use xmaxima on a macbook pro.  The key combination Alt-P which works in Win-XP and unix  does not work on the mac.

Any idea how to get the mac to do what Alt-P does in Win and unix?
