|&STYLE,[POINTS,4,3,3]| is a Maxima string, which suggests that
you entered "style,[points,4,3,3]" but the quote marks should be omitted.
I'm guessing this is from plot2d. I don't know how the options are supposed
to be written these days. Maybe you can show us the input expression
which triggered the error above.
