[Maxima] signum-plot

Meine VistaPrint Elektronische VisitenkarteL.S.,

I tried to plot a signumfunction in the following way :

(%i36) f(x):=x^3;
(%o36) f(x):=x^3
(%i37) plot2d(signum(f(x)),[x,-4,4]);

But I got no plot at all ?
