[Maxima] share search, was: Maxima stats huge numbers of files at startup?

I'm not proposing that we go back to the manual list construction.

Well, I suspect the problem is that Maxima thinks that / is the
share directory. Maybe stat-over-NFS is not any big deal so long
as Maxima is looking in the right place.
I guess I'm inclined to just let it ride until we know more.
