I used sh
# cd doc/info
# pattern=`printf "\r$"`
# bad_files=`find . -name '*.texi' -print | xargs /usr/bin/grep -E -l -e
# echo $bad_files
bad_files is empty
# which grep
# grep --version
grep (GNU grep) 2.5.1-FreeBSD
Which allows -E -l -e
I started fresh.
Maybe something strange in unpacking/configure/code-rot?
make check passed, with the exception of known errors.
