hotels and small bed and breakfast close to the University. However,
they will fill quickly

Local information: restaurants, buses,
etc.
Keep in mind that
Austin is the second most wired town in the country (according to Yahoo)
so that it is easy to find in the WWW information about restaurants etc.
We have found useful:
as well as:
Near the University there are many restaurants and
places where to have lunch which cater to a large
number of students. Specially around Guadalupe St. and
San Jacinto there are many possibilities.

Arriving there
Austin
switched airports in May. The new airport, even if a bit farther awy
is reasonably close to the University and the hotels
A taxi fare is about $20.
There are also shuttle vans
There are
buses
and public transportion
which could be convenient and inexpensive for
people staying near campus.
If you are driving, the best way to
reach the University is to take IH-35 and take the LBJ Library exit. Take
26 st. (a.k.a. Dean Keeton) west till you reach Speedway. RLM will be there.
The hotels with reservations are in the same general area. We have found
very convenient to plan driving routes using
http://www.mapblast.com/mapblast, which gives rather detailed
driving directions in many cities, including Austin.
