August 29 Intro show. We talked about our summer internships as science journalists: DJ Bunsen wrote about healthy stuff at the LA Times, and DJ Beaker wrote for the US government at the Voice of America.
September 7 DJ Bunsen was out of town decapitating molecules. DJ Beaker played music by bands that had scientists in them.
September 14 DJ Eppendorf and DJ Erlenmeyer guest hosted and we talked about the week's science headlines (the ones we liked): nonstick gum, ground squirrels and how they scare away rattlesnakes, and burning water.
September 21 Show was cancelled for a live VHS or Beta show.
September 28 We had special guests Built by Snow, a local band who loves science. A piece of trivia: One of their members has a degree in math!
October 5 Dr. Rory Coker, from the physics department, talked to us about his class on pseudo-science!
Interview!October 12 Dr. Michael Starbird, from the mathematics department, told us about statistics in life, how it's necessary and how it can be misused.
October 19 We interviewed some unconventional scientists who were in town for Maker Faire. Our special guests were Windell H. Oskay, from Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories, and three members of the he NYU ITP program: Rob Faludi and Kate Hartman, two of the people behind Botanicalls, and Gabriel Barcia-Colombo, creator of the Jitterbox.
October 26 Tierney O'Dea, from SLOOH, talked to us about the online observatory.
November 2 University of Minnesota mathematician David Roberts talked to us about number theory and his math research.
November 9 We had Jerry Chamkis in our studio to talk to us about Kosmophone and the music of the universe.
November 16 This was Thanksgiving weekend, and Adriana rambled about how Holday food affects your system, and why tryptophan is the least of your worries.
November 30 We talked to Steve Wolf, who specializes in special effects and other applications of science in the movies.
January 15 We had some stories about monkey faces.
Listen.January 22 We talked about face recognition and monkeys again.
January 29 We had Thomas Keller, a biology graduate student, as our special guest, and we talked about how monkeys are better than college students at estimating arithmetic operations with really big numbers. We set a record for most shows in a row talking about monkeys...
February 4 DJ Bunsen interviewed Sarah, from plant biologist Allan Lloyd's lab, and we talked about plants and antibiotics. Listen.
February 11 We talked about Darwin (the anniversary of his birth was on February 12th) and about scratching and itching. Listen.
February 18 We had special guest Henry Segerman, from the department of Mathematics here at UT, who talked about topology and the mathematics of juggling. Listen.
February 25 We had two of the makers of Flatland, the movie as special guests: Jeff Travis and Dano Johnson.. The Austinites talked about their movie, based on the classic book, and we played some audio excerpts. Listen.
March 3
March 10
March 17 Guest DJ Derrida interviewed Benjamin Rubin about teaching physics to 9th graders and why that is a good idea. Listen.
March 24 DJ Beaker reported on what the best way to board an airplane is.
March 31 Dr. Lauren Ancel Meyers, from the Department of Applied Mathematics here at UT, will be telling us about her research in epidemiology.
April 7 We interviewed DJ Bunsen's mom about what it's like to live in a house full of sort-of scientists, and what it's like to teach science before and after you get to liking it.
April 14 We will be talking to UT Geophysicist Sean Gulick. He will tell us about his research and specifically about how studying craters can tell us about how the dinosaurs became extinct.
April 21 We discussed the latest discoveries in animal technology, including how an albatross finds its food out on the open ocean, and how geckos are always able to land on their feet (it's because of their awesome tails!).
April 28 We discussed science news, including how Aztecs figured out how to tax each other using math, and how bacteria that should be killed by antibiotics can learn to eat them as food instead.
May 5 We interviewed Steve Wolf again! This time, we talked about Stunt Camp.
