Prerequisite: M341 or M325K with a grade of at least C.

Text: Kenneth H. Rosen, Elementary Number Theory and its applications, Fifth Edition, Pearson Addison Wesley, 2005.

Syllabus: We will cover material included in Chapters 1-9.

Homework: Homework assignments are posted on this website on a weekly basis and are due at the indicated dates (usually on Fridays) AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS. Selected problems will be graded and grades will be posted on UT Direct's e-gradebook. No late homework will be accepted. However, the two lowest homework grades of each student will be dropped. Please keep a copy of your homeworks if you need them to study. It is the student's responsibility to check the News section of this website regularly for homework assignments .

Student Presentations: All students are required to present their work to the rest of the class during homework discussions at least twice during the semester. The homework discussions take place on days that homework is due.

Tests: There will be three tests and a Final comprehensive exam on the following dates:

Course Grade: The course grade will be computed according to the following:
  • homework 10%
    presentations 10%
best two grades of your three tests, 25% each (that is, we drop the lowest of your three test grades)
    final 30%
  • An "A" will correspond to a number grade strictly bigger than 89; a "B", same with 79; a "C", same with 69; a "D", same with 59.

Students with Disabilities: The University of Texas at Austin provides upon request appropriate academic accommodations for qualified students with disabilities. For more information, contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 471-6259, 471-4641 TTY.

Make-up Policy: There are no make-ups for homeworks, as the two lowest grades of each student are dropped when computing the final homework grade. There are no make-ups for tests, as the lowest grade of each student is dropped when computing the final course grade.
