Current weather conditions for Delaware, OH

Perkins Observatory Clear Sky Chart

We hope for clear skies; failing that, we will cancel the session. Thus it might be worth your while to check the above extension, but no more than a 1/2 hour before the scheduled observing session. You will encounter a go or no-go message for the evening. Note however that Perkins Observatory sessions are always go — we will not cancel sessions at Perkins due to weather, since there is plenty more to see inside the building.

Astronomers are a hardy bunch, often spending all night high on a cold mountain top. You too should prepare for adverse weather — remember to dress warmly! Astronomers do not heat the domes, to prevent image distortion as warm air mixes with cold (think of the mirage you see in the distance just above the surface of a very hot section of highway).

Attendance: please sign the observing session attendance sheet, otherwise I will not know to count the session toward your grade. Cloudy Perkins sessions may only count for one of your required sessions.

Transportation: Presumably you will have no trouble arriving at the student observatory, since it's on campus! As for Perkins, which is off campus, OWU will provide a van to take students. You may of course drive yourself; in that case, you should arrive at the student observatory at the scheduled time and then follow the van to Perkins.
