fri 2/3 - arrived in the afternoon at SD airport; shuttle to hotel. gonzalo was already there and after a bit we went out for pizza. pretty good pizza; the beer was expensive though! david arrived rather late, after midnight as i recall.
sat 2/4 - gonzalo and i got up at 7am and went to the beach, just a 5 minute walk from the inn. wow! wish we'd had more time. my camera batteries ran out of juice too. told myself i'd come back on sunday morning.
back at the ranch, er, university: bunch of talks, catered lunch, bunch more talks, pizza delivered for supper, then a code sprint which i did not participate in because i was hastily preparing a hastily-prepared talk about MPFR in SAGE, which i had helped william to implement last august. success! went to bed at a reasonable hour, but not so reasonable that i was able to get up early enough to see the beach again.
sun 2/5 - the hotel staff imagined for some reason that we had cancelled breakfast, so we were almost late for the conference waiting for it. but we made it. another day of talks -- half day for me, since i had to catch an early plane. the weekend really seemed as short as this tiny blurb has made it sound. too bad! next year i'll cut class and stay longer.
postscript - the airline lost my bag on the way back. waiting for my bag
made me miss the last bus to town, but it was ok since my advisor was
there to pick me up. he didn't know he was there to pick me up; he
thought he was just there to pick up his daughter coming in from
seattle. pretty weird huh? anyway, all's well that ends well - i got a
ride home and my
bag was discovered and delivered the next day.
