Recommendations for Scheduling of Courses for the Master's in Statistics Program
I. If you are working on the MS Statistics along with a Ph.D. in another department:
See the page Special information for students seeking the Master's in Statistics while working on a Ph.D in another department.
II. If you have taken M 378K: Introduction to Mathematical Statistics or an equivalent course before entering the program:
A typical schedule would be:
- Fall semester of first year: Mathematical Statistics I, Regression Analysis, plus either a course to count toward your minor or another statistics course.
- Spring semester of first year:
Mathematical Statistics II, Analysis of Variance, plus either a course
to count toward your minor of another statistics course.
- Fall semester of second year: Additional statistics or minor courses as needed. Also arrange a report supervisor, reader, and topic.
- Spring semester of second year: Report course plus additaional statistics or minor courses as needed.
Please note that this assumes that the student enters Fall semester and plans to finish the program in two years.
III. If you have not taken M 378K: Introduction to Mathematical Statistics or an equivalent course before entering the program:
A typical schedule would be:
- Fall semester of first year: M378K, Regression Analysis, plus either a course to count toward your minor or another statistics course.
- Spring semester of first year:
Analysis of Variance, plus two more courses chosen from courses for the minor or statistics elective courses.
- Fall semester of second year: Mathematical Statistics I plus two additional statistics or minor courses as needed. Also arrange a report supervisor, reader, and topic.
- Spring semester of second year: Mathematical Statistics II, Report course, plus one additional course as needed.
Please note that this assumes that the student enters Fall
semester and has already had M 362K: Probability I (or an equivalent
course).
