Special information for students seeking the Master's in Statistics while working on a Ph.D in another department
University regulations to be aware of:
- A student must be registered in a program in the semester in which they receive the degree in that program.
- A student may not be registered in two different graduate
programs at the same time (except for a small number of special
established joint degree programs).
- The master's degree must be received before the Ph.D.
Consequences for students seeking the MS Statistics while working on a Ph.D. in another department:
- You need to switch to the Master's in Statistics program for
the semester in which you plan to receive this degree. The appropriate
application is the Graduate Change of Major.
- You need to switch back to your Ph.D. program the following semester. (Again, use the Graduate Change of Major application.)
- As a consequence of item (2), you need to be sure your Ph.D. program knows about your plans, so they will re-admit you.
Further information:
- It is unlikely that you can receive financial support from
the statistics program. Most students in this situation receive support
from their Ph.D. program, including during the semester that they are
registerd in the Master's in Statistics information.
- You should check in with the statistics advisor each
semester before you register to be sure you are on track to receive the
Master's in Statistics.
- Be sure you have prerequisites before you take courses, especially for Core Courses.
