ADDITIONAL UPPER DIVISION MATH HOURS FOR THE MATH BS-TEACHING OPTION

How is this requirement listed in the catalogue?

You will find this requirement in the catalogue as requirement 14(g).

How many more hours of upper division math do I need?

Requirements 14 (a) - 14 (f) total either 27 or 28 hours, depending on whether you take M 378K or M 427K for your Depth Course. The math BS degree requires a total of at least 32 upper division math hours. Thus you need to take at least 5 (if you chose M 378K for your Depth Course) or 4 (if you chose M 427K for your Depth Course) additional upper division math hours to complete your math requirements.

What courses can I choose for this requirement?

The choices listed in the requirement are M 326K, 427K, 328K, 439J, 339U, 343K, 343L, 348, 360M, 361, 362M, 365C, 365D, 368K, 373K, 373L, 175, 378K.

I used some of these courses to meet earlier requirements. Can I use a course to satisfy this requirement as well as another one?

No. This requirement is for additional hours, beyond those for the other requirements listed. Some of the courses listed in other requirements are also listed in this requirement to allow you to take more than one course from some of the requirements that have more than one choice. For example, you can count both M 326K and M 360M (the options for Requirement 14(c)) toward your degree by counting one of these courses toward Requirement 14(c) and one toward requirement 14 (g).

Could I count other courses toward this requirement?

Possibly. For example, sometimes courses are offered under the number M375 that would be suitable to count toward this degree. If you have a particular course in mind, check with the faculty advisor for this specialization (Dr. Smith, mks@math.utexas.edu).
