WHY IS THIS PART OF MY DEGREE PLAN?
 
 

The purpose of this website is to help students pursuing one of the math major teaching options to understand the role their required math courses play in their professional development. These pages often refer to the following documents:

NCTM Principles and Standards for School Mathematics. This document, published by the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), provides standards for math teaching in grades Pre-K through 12. Click here to read the Principles and Standards online.

SBEC Mathematics Standards (Grades 8-12). These are the standards set by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) for secondary math teachers. Click here to go to the SBEC Educator Standards and Test Frameworks page, from which you can download the Mathematics (Grades 8 - 12) Standards in pdf format.

Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. These are the curriculum guidelines forTexas schools. They are often referred to as the TEKS. Click here to access the mathematics TEKS and related online materials.
