Math 310T, Fall 2013 -- Mixing Times of Markov Chains

Here's the syllabus for the class! The homework will be posted here. The solutions to the quizzes will be posted here.

Office hours: Thursday, 11:00 -- 12:00; Friday, 11:30 -- 12:30; and by appointment. My office number is RLM 10.110.

Reference: Here is a textbook about Markov chain mixing times. We definitely aren't covering all the material, and I'm not sure all the proofs are at the right level, but there are lots of examples!

Matlab: In this class, you will be expected to use mathematical software called Matlab (this stands for Matrix Laboratory.) You can access Matlab on the computers in RLM 7.122. After you make an account, you can also access the software from your computer using ssh (talk to me if you don't know how to do that.)

There are good tutorials online about how to use Matlab: here's a link. The "Getting Started with MATLAB" video is (unsurprisingly) a good place to start.
