Are you planning to show up on the first day of class even though you aren't enrolled?

Please email me to discuss your situation before the fall semester ends. The spring course really is the second half of a two-semester course. We begin in the middle of the textbook and the homework, classwork, and tests assume that you have current knowledge of the material covered in the first half of the course - both in the textbook and in the extra materials used in the fall semester.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just come to class on the first day to see what it is like?

Answer: If you have contacted me in advance and if I agree that it is reasonable that you might have the equivalent of the prerequisite, then, yes, you may come.

If I don't get enrolled in the class until later, will I be able to turn in the first assignment late?

Answer: No assignments are accepted late. But there is a provision for dropping some homework grades, so it doesn't have to affect your grade if you aren't able to turn in the first assignment for grading. Obviously, you should do all the assignments to prepare adequately for the later work in the course.

Can I just audit the course?

Answer: No. This is a very interactive course and it is important for the classroom interactions that all the students are working in the course for a grade. Having students audit is distracting to that. Also, in an earlier year when we didn't have such strict rules about audits, it was not uncommon for some classes to barely have enough students to "make" but have quite a few students auditing. That was a problem.

What if the class is full?

Answer: There are three different numbers for this same class. If one is full, please check the others. If all of them are full, then the SDS course will have a waitlist. Get on that waitlist so that, if students drop, then other students can enroll in an orderly fashion.
