Objetive: The pourpose of this course is to prepare students for   Calculus courses (M408C and M408K).

Class times and Place: MWF 3-4 p.m in RLM 5.118 and TTh 5-6 p.m. in WRW 113.

Text: Sullivan, Precalculus, 8th edition 2007. We will cover the majority of chapters 1-7.

Chapter 3: Linear and Quadratic Functions: Sections 3.1, 3.2, 3.3


Chapter 4: Polynomials and Rational Functions Sections 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.6.

Chapter 5: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions Sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, 5.9.

Chapter 6: Trigonometric Functions Sections 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6.
 
Chapter 7: Analytic Trigonometry Sections 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6.


Grades









Final Exam 30%: The final exam is comprehensive and attendance is required. You implicitly agree to attend the   final by registering for the course.

Midterm Exams 50%: There will be two 50 minutes midterm exams given in class. Each midterm will make for 25% of your final grade.

Homework 20%: Homework will be assigned every Monday and will be collected at the beginning of class the following Monday. Late homework will not be accepted unless you have a good excuse.

Final Grades: A:90-100%, B:80-89%, C:70-79%, D:60-69%, F0-59%. I reserve the right to alter this scheme at the end of the term, but only to your benefit.


Additional Relevant Information









Prerequisite: The prerequisite is either a score of 480 or above on the SATII-Math IC exam or at least a C in College algebra (M301) or Trigonometry (M304E).

Calculators during tests: The use of calculators will be allowed in general unless indicated. On the contrary, the use of cell phones or any other electronic devices is not permited.
