We will attempt to cover the first 8 chapters, with occasional sections skipped. Do notattempt to use the first edition of the book, which is filled with printing errors. Also, the second edition has a lot of new content and is priced at half the first edition, thanks to a change in publishers.Prerequisites: M340L or M341 or M311 or my permission. I expect you to have a good feel for manipulating matrices, especially row reduction, at the level of Appendix A. I also expect you to have seenabstract vector spaces and linear transformations, but some rustiness is expected -- we'll be reviewing that. I don't assume that you've seen eigenvalues and eigenvectors at all; we'll do them from scratch.Homework ScheduleHomework 13 is due on Friday, May 1, and homework 14 will be due on Friday, May 8.Finals week office hoursBesides my Monday morning office hours (that almost nobody came to), I'll be in RLM 9.114 on Thursday 11-12 and Friday 10-12. Actually, I'll be around most of the time this week, and you're welcome to stop by, but Ipromiseto be around then.Final ExamTuesday, May 19, from 9-12 in RLM 7.104. That's the big room near the elevators. The ground rules are similar to the midterms (closed book, no calculators), except that you are allowedtwo8.5 x 11 "crib sheets". As usual, you can write whatever you want on each side of your crib sheets, as long as it ishandwritten, by you.## *
