Mathematics of Failure: Cracks and Pops
featuring Dr. Michael Marder

On January 21st, Dr. Michael Marder lead a discussion about the physical phenomenum of fracture. We explored some of the underlying mathematical concepts behind some famous failures of mechanical engineering throughout history. We also used techniques of dimensional analysis to learn how many well-known equations from physics can be derived with little more than algebra and geometry.
