CLASS HOURS: Mon, Wed, Fri 1:00 -- 2:00 RLM 11.176

OFFICE HOURS: Wed 9:30 -- 11:30 or by appointment.

SYLLABUS: The first two parts of the book. Groups (groups, subgroups, quotient groups, group actions, direct products, solvable groups)
and Rings (rings, domains, PIDs, UFDs, polynomial rings, modules).

TEXTBOOK: D. Dummit and R. Foote, Abstract Algebra, Second Edition, Prentice Hall, 1999. There is an errata.

EXAMS: A midterm on October 15th, 1:00-2:00, covering part I of the book and a comprehensive exam on Dec. 3rd., 1:00-2:00.

HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned weekly and it will be due following week, unless otherwise stipulated.

GRADES: 30% homework + 30% midterm + 40% final.
