An important objective of the SAGE model is to encourage undergraduate students to go on to further studies in mathematics and mathematically intensive disciplines, at all levels. By meeting and observing workshop participants, these students get opportunities to interact with visiting and local researchers and to learn about some current mathematical research in an accessible manner.
This year, the invitation for undergraduates to participate in SAGE took place under the auspices of UT’s thriving math club: umrg (the Undergraduate Mathematics Research Group). On Wednesday, April 8, Dan Knopf spoke on the topic of:
Lie groups, Lie
algebras, and their “best” metrics: transforming transformation
