Ivan Tulli, RLM 10.176: Hyperkahler Manifolds and How to Find Them
Thursday, November 08, 2018, 04:00pm - 05:00pm
Hyperkahler manifolds arise naturally in the context of mathematicalphysics, and carry an extremely rich geometric structure. Thereare two main approaches for building such manifolds: the firstis inspired by the work of Roger Penrose on Twistor theory; whilethe second, called the hyperkahler quotient, is inspired fromquestions in supersymmetric field theory. In this talk I willexplain both constructions and give examples. P.S. You don'tneed to know what Twistor theory or supersymmetric field theoryis to understand the talk. Also note the Jr. Geometry Seminaris on THURSDAY this week; Geometry will meet Tuesday.
