Yixian Wu, RLM 12.166: Moduli of Rational Curves in Toric Varieties and Its Tropicalization
Tuesday, March 26, 2019, 04:00pm - 05:00pm
Tropical geometry studies piecewise linear combinatorial structures, which are closely related to algebraic geometry and provide insightto questions like enumerative geometry and moduli problems. Asa cool example of the interplay of tropical and algebraic geometry,I will introduce the moduli space of genus 0 logarithmic stablemaps in toric varieties and the moduli space of tropical stablemaps in this setting. We will see tropicalization of algebraicmoduli coincides with the tropical moduli. In addition, combinatorialdata from tropical geometry provides an explicit geometric descriptionof algebraic moduli. We will use degree 1 rational curves in$\mathbb{P}^2$ as a friendly example. The talk is based on DhruvRanganathan's paper "Skeleton of stable maps I: rational curvesin toric varieties."
