Hannah Turner, RLM 12.166: Twist number of braids
Wednesday, February 12, 2020, 02:00pm - 03:00pm
Malyutin defined a real-valued invariant of closed braids called the twist number. Its name is accurate since, in some sense, it measures how much a braid is "twisted." This invariant is related to to the three-genus, primeness and braid index of a braid closure, and to the geometry of its complement.
