Teddy Weisman, Junior Topology Zoom Room: Topological stability of hyperbolic group actions on their boundaries

Any word-hyperbolic group naturally acts on its visual boundary, a topological space which compactifies the group at infinity. In most cases, this "action at infinity" is a rich source of information about the group. In fact, almost every hyperbolic group embeds discretely into the group of homeomorphisms of its boundary. Recently, Kathryn Mann and Jason Manning showed that when a hyperbolic group has sphere boundary, its boundary action is topologically stable - that is, any small perturbation of the action is semi-conjugate to the original action. In this talk, we will explain joint work in progress with Mann and Manning which extends this result to general hyperbolic groups.
