Irving Dai, Zoom: Floer homology and symmetries of knots and manifolds
Wednesday, February 23, 2022, 02:00pm - 03:00pm
Many examples of knots and manifolds exhibit interesting symmetries. Somewhat surprisingly, these often turn out to be related to broader questions involving the difference between smooth and continuous topology in low dimensions. In this talk, I will discuss some recent work (joint with Matthew Hedden, Abhishek Mallick, and Matthew Stoffregen) aimed at understanding these symmetries from the point of view of Floer homology. I will discuss several applications to (seemingly) non-equivariant questions, as well as indicate some directions for further research.
