Problem is completely solved and solution is completely and clearly explained, appropriately for the "audience" as described in the handout "Guidelines for Written Homework"

8 points:
Paper shows evidence that problem is well understood (see below) and a plan that would give a solution is presented, but plan is not completely carried out, or explanation is not at the appropriate level.

6 points:
Paper shows that student has obtained a good understanding of the problem. In particular, all of the following that fit the problem have been done in a manner appropriate to the problem:
•    The conditions of the problem (what is given and what is to be found or proved) have been identified.
•    Understanding of terminology is displayed. (In particular, no misunderstanding has been displayed.)
•    The conditions have been reformulated in whichever of the following ways are appropriate:
•    Pictures have been drawn and appropriately labeled. (Or a model has been made and explored, if pictures are not adequate.) They are representative of the general case (or cases), are appropriate for the problem, and are drawn from a helpful perspective.
•    Words have been translated correctly into equations, with care given to choosing notation that is both correct and helpful.
•    Charts, graphs, or schematic diagrams are used to organize  information or help display the structure of the problem situation.
•    Information has been transformed into more workable form using definitions or known results.

Please note:
Late homework policy is that late homework is accepted only if a student missed class on the day the homework was due, and has not discussed the late homework with anyone in the class after it was presented it in class.
If you get to class late on a day when homework is due, please hand in your homework when you enter.
