Tuesday, February 13, 2024, 03:15pm - 04:15pm
We will show that a conic in P^2 has a solution in Q if and only if it has solutions in Q_p for all primes p. If you don't know what some of these words mean it's no problem, everything will be introduced. The proof will rely on the volume of an ellipsoid and the fact that pi 3. Along the way we will be introduced to the p-adic numbers and the Minkowski bound.
