Moon-Jin Kang, RLM 10.176: Uniqueness of entropy shock and contraction property of shock layer

We discuss the contraction property for any large perturbationsof shock layers to the compressible Navier-Stokes system. Thecontraction holds up to a time-dependent shift and is measuredby a weighted relative entropy. The contraction does not dependon the viscosity coefficient. Therefore, this provides a weakcompactness for the inviscid limit problem, that is, we givea partial answer of the long standing conjecture: The compressibleEuler equations admit a unique entropy solution in the classof inviscid limits of solutions to the associated physical viscoussystem that is compressible Navier-Stokes system.
